Brownsville ISD has five 5A high schools. All are accredited by the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools. In August 2008, BISD opened the Early College High School enabling students to simultaneously earn 60 tuition-free college hours and/or an Associate’s Degree and a high school diploma in just four years.  Another high school, Veterans Memorial, is currently under construction on Military Highway. Funded by the 2006 School Bond, it is expected to be substantially complete and ready for occupancy in August 2010.
